For over 25 years I have been learning all I can about holistic health and wellness. My interest in natural health led me to Five Branches University where I received my Masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2005. Along with Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and herbs I also completed the Five Elements Acupuncture program, as well as the Medical Qi Gong program and Tuina massage program. I traveled to Hangzhou, China to study in a hospital where my understanding of this ancient medicine was profoundly deepened. Since then, I have been bringing my endless curiosity into the treatment room to address difficult health issues with my patients. The body has an innate intelligence, always striving to bring itself back into balance and vitality. With acupuncture, herbs and nutrition we can create the right environment for the body, mind and spirit to thrive. It is my honor to partner with you on your healing journey.
When I am not treating patients I enjoy listening to podcasts about health and nutrition, meditating, walking at Mt. Pisgah with my family, reading, playing tennis or playing the drums.
Description of Acupuncture:
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese Medicine therapy that involves the use of sterile, disposable needles to stimulate certain areas of the body for the purpose of alleviating pain, improving mobility and achieving optimal health. Acupuncture draws on the belief that an energy called Qi (pronounced “chee”) circulates throughout our body. When we experience good health, this energy flows freely along pathways in the body called meridians. Each meridian is connected to a specific organ system and when the energy flow is disrupted by a disease or an injury, illness or pain occurs. Acupuncture is then used to restore proper circulation of qi through the meridians. With the circulation restored pain and illness are alleviated.
When acupuncture points are stimulated they send a message along the nerve to the brain and spinal cord. This causes the brain to release chemicals such as endorphins. The release of these mood regulating chemicals helps patients feel better physically and emotionally. Acupuncture has been proven to shift our bodies from a sympathetic (flight or fight) state of being into a parasympathetic (rest and restore) state which facilitates hormone balancing, digestion as well as detoxification.
